Zehnder Ventilation Systems are designed to exchange the air volume every 3 hours.

These systems are designed to replace the bathroom exhaust fans. They operate 24/7 at half capacity and have booster switches in the bathrooms to ramp the whole system up x2 for 20 minutes. This time setting can be adjusted. They exhaust from bathrooms and the kitchen, and supply to the bedrooms and common spaces.

The Ventilation units (ERV) should be installed in conditioned space, which could include a crawl space or an attic.

Large diameter pipe connects the unit to the exterior grills and potentially the manifolds. The sticks are 1 meter long and the bends come in 45-degrees. The number of sticks and bends needs verified depending on where you install the ERV unit. You’ll have an option to add more of these to your kit.

The exterior grills need to be at least 10 feet apart, 2 feet above grade, and accessible for seasonal cleaning.

Manifolds can be mounted on the unit itself, on the ceiling, behind drywall, or branched down away from the unit to make the 3-inch tube runs shorter. Manifolds come in 4-, 6-, 8-, 10- and 12-ports and are sold is sets of two, one for supply and one for exhaust. The systems are designed to have an equal number of supply and exhaust runs.

Three-inch runs fit in 2x4 walls and connect to room registers. Shortest duct runs are always best, but typical designs can have runs up to 60 or 70 feet. The kits assume average duct lengths of 40 feet.
